Submit Maps
With The Frozen Throne Beta well under way, Blizzard Entertainment is calling all map designers to try their hand at the World Editor, and truly participate in the game design process.

Any map designer, from novice to expert, can now break out their creative skills and design a map that could be included on the final pressing of Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Qualified participants that possess a valid Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos CD-Key may enter Blizzard's map design contest, giving them the potential to have their map enjoyed by players around the world.

The Blizzard development teams will be evaluating maps that contestants submit, and will be including those that they find to be the most fun, unique and balanced.

One or more contestants will be awarded the grand prize that includes: one signed copy of Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, their name added to the Blizzard's Friends List, inclusion in the Hall of Heroes, and most prominently, the in-game Credits will list the names of the winners to recognize them for all their hard work and dedication.

Keep in mind that a maximum of three entries will be allowed per person per CD-Key and be sure to read our map submission tips to learn what we are looking for.

Map Submission Tips

  • All maps should be balanced to have roughly fair starting positions and equal access to expansions, creep, and terrain features: gold mines should have equal monetary value, landscape is of equal advantage or disadvantage (chokepoints, building space, etc.), and the map's contents are equal so no player has an advantage over another.

  • Play the map with every race and see if it can accommodate units and buildings from every race. A Tauren Chieftain may need a little more space to stretch than a Mountain King would, and a Human base requires more room than other races. Most starting locations should have approximately 10 chunks (the largest dividing squares within the map editor's grid) of build space.

  • Modifying the tile-set textures is not recommended.

  • Please note that although trigger maps will be accepted, it is likely that they will not be chosen unless they are extremely polished, fun, balanced and bug free.

  • Winning maps may be modified by Blizzard, which includes a bit of polish and possibly a tileset changeā€¦

  • Maps will be judged on:

    • Layout creativity - maps should be original and not look like other maps.

    • Creep balance and creativity - be creative with the number, placement, and difficulty of camps. Every map must have creep.

    • Game balance - maps needn't be symmetrical, but all starting locations must be fair.

    • Art - we're looking for artistic texture usage, doodad placement, fog and weather usage, etc.

The maps submitted by the winning entrants may, at Blizzard's sole discretion, be utilized by Blizzard, in whole or in part, as maps in Blizzard's upcoming product, Warcraft III Expansion: The Frozen Throne. Blizzard expressly reserves the right to utilize the entries, or not to utilize the entries, in whole or in part, in its sole and absolute discretion. All maps submitted as part of this Contest become the sole property of Blizzard Entertainment.

The contest begins on March 27th and will run through April 11th.
